Opening with one of the most melodically pleasing acoustic melodies I’ve had the pleasure to come across all year, Mark Vennis & Different Place don’t waste too much time on the pleasantries before hitting you with a flurry of garage and grit on “Wild Suburban Boy”. It’s the ability to combine that pleasing flowery aesthetic with the fury and rage of a visceral and raw rock and roll track that makes “Wild SUburban Boy” so fun. That chorus hits like a truck when it first comes on, the kind of anthemic chant that you want to scream at the top of your lungs.
It’s very raw, a DIY style that’s innately so appealing to me. There’s a flair to the entire composition that’s quite refreshingly its own, a stripped back style but a fullness to the overall soundscape that’s immensely fun throughout.
