One of the warmest, cosiest, and soulful piece out of the indie space I’ve had the pleasure to come across all year, TAYCE’s ‘Nothing Better’ is just a blissful ride with zero bumps on the journey. You feel yourself cascading through a shimmering tunnel that’s blessed with shiny lights, snuggled in blankets, and a certain playfulness all around that just leaves you feeling all kinds of happy. TAYCE’s wonderful vocal performance, subtle and impeccably intonated across each track is an undeniable highlight. But it’s really in the dreamy soundscapes that she seems to so effortlessly put together where you realise how talented TAYCE really is.
There isn’t much in the way of sonic diversity in this record, but it works better like that for the sake of the vibe on Nothing Better. It’s consistent, never really veering away from that same energy she brings on the impressive opening piece ‘why it’s ending’. While songs like ‘do I know you?’ see her with a lot more pomp and boisterousness, it’s never really going off an edge. The record consistently stays in this unique confluence of being a singer-songwriter indie record but infused with a level of dream pop and soul rock that give it a unique sheen. Songs like ‘let me be alone’ are the perfect tracks to lie in bed to, to contemplate, to introspect, and to take you to your own happy place.
Any indie fan would find a few pieces for their playlists on this record. TAYCE is an artist to watch out for and Nothing Better is just a small sign of what’s to come.
