“Spooky” is unlike anything you’ve heard. The genre-defyingly eclectic piece from Ari Joshua and the larger collective brims with life through a keenly psychedelic atmosphere that’s serenading in its slowness and hypnotising in its arrangement. With a slow moving bass that gives the entire piece a level of panache and presence, it’s able to breathe life into the rest of the instrumental with a free flowing sax, guitar, and rhythmic percussion just driving it along. Combining moods that vary from reggae and roots to a more artful rock core, this is sensationally powerful through and through.
It’s dark and moody, but not in a way that feels morose and melancholic. There’s a brooding quality to it, a menacing progression that feels intense and engrossing throughout. Any instrumental nerd will geek out on this record undoubtedly.
