Brother Swan – Good Luck Baby

A wonderfully hazy and smooth piece of modern rock music, Brother Swan’s supple and soothing surf rock anthem ‘Good Luck Baby’ is just rife with feelings of nostalgia and wallowing. The indie anthem is written around and about the fear of pursuance, the avoidance we feel towards accepting or pursuing new relationships that stems from a place of anxiousness and uncertainty. It really appeals to the unsure and confused, perfectly encapsulating that desire to feel loved and cherished by someone else but simultaneously far too scared to get hurt or dive in.

With a chorus line that’s just so effortlessly succinct and emblematic of its whole message, ‘Good Luck Baby’s “can you save me from myself?” might just be my favourite single lyric from a rock tune all year. A special song from a group that’s leaving my expectations on a resoundingly high note. Surf rock done with melody, emotion, and a whole lot of empathy as well.
