Cynthia Hamar’s ‘Light A Fire’ brings back that traditional folk energy in a long winding tune that shows you the power of a vocalist who’s uniquely her own. Combining elements of reggae with traditional folk, Hamar brings out a quirky but heart warming energy that’s able to be deeply endearing to you. Hamar wrote the song feeling the intense burnout after struggling with the intense grind required to match her ambitions.
I don’t quite know how to accurately describe Light A Fire. From the melody to Cynthia Hamar’s distinctive voice, it’s unlike any kind of tune I’ve come across before. Around the three and a half minute where the vocal harmonies kick up a notch, I find myself smiling giddily and just completely feeling all my anxieties dissipate. It’s so strangely empowering, so transcendently uplifting, and all the while doing so without really over stretching itself.
