Rarely, but joyfully, you come across a piece of music that has no real benchmark, no real placeholder to identify it against. Even less often, that style immediately has you intrigued to find out more, to understand what’s going on. On Dizzy Panda’s latest track, that intrigue hit me like it hadn’t in a while. It’s so effortlessly energetic, so lethargically cool, and so infused with a lackadaisical groove that you can’t help but vibe alongside it. The vocals are sleek and suave, a stylishness you have to be born with. There’s nothing inherited here, nothing copied, and nothing imitated. It is, originality in under three minutes done with swagger.
The Dutch due worked in collaboration with Norwegian band Yogishine to bring this masterclass to life. The soulfulness and jazzy energy of Yogishine’s Therese blends and matches with the 90’s instrumental and arrangement that Dizzy Panda bring to life so well. With an entire animated video crafted on three stills provided by Therese, it makes the entire experience all that more intriguing to explore.
I can’t quite pin it down to any particular genre, and there’s really no point harping on that singular fact. Enjoy it, because you should do what your heart wants you to do.
