Recorded and performed in as homely an environment as their can be, Ed Roman’s poignant and eloquent folk rock anthem ‘I Have a Dream’ is a plea and vision for a happier world. Yes it might be cheesy, yes it might slightly overly optimistic, and sure it might be done a few times before, but that doesn’t take one bit away from how endearing and sincere Roman’s performance is. The very stripped back nature of the record, the minimalist approach all lends itself to amplifying Roman’s message about appreciating and being grateful for the wonders of life’s simple things.
It’s rare to come across a piece of music so seemingly mundane and simple but still so effectively moving. Perhaps that’s the beauty of it all; that a simple singer-songwriter equipped with just a guitar, an empathetic standpoint, and a vocal performance imbued with sincerity and passion can strike the chord of just about anyone.
