‘Reflexion’ starts with such a vibey, groovy, and infectious riff on ‘Espejo’ that you find yourself almost instantly moving to the beat. The delightful record from internationally renowned Latin guitarist Elijuri is such an unavoidable good time no matter the hour. While the language escapes me and hence a lot of the underlying meaning behind each track might not be immediately discernible, the sheer joy I had while playing through this record is without a question. It’s simply loaded from back to front with so much fun, the kind that has you just entirely and completely in enjoyment from end to end. ‘Espejo’ is by far the most fun guitar driven rock tune I’ve experienced this month.
Combining a myriad of styles, from a more heavy and aggressive hard rock to easy going reggae melodies, Elijuri manages to keep you on your feet while making sure the grooves are never once put aside. ‘Salva la Tierra’ is a bit more restrained, slightly less raucous and rambunctious fun as the opener but nonetheless captivating for its more all encompassing build up and wonderful drop around the minute and a half mark. Even the way that chorus is sung just has you singing along whether you know it or not.
As far as Latin rock goes, it’s a relatively new space for me but I’ve just been having such a ball going through each and every record from the genre. Reflexion so far definitely steals the spot for top billing. The guitar work is beyond exemplary, constantly innovative and ridiculously fun from back to front.
