Gethyn Jones takes it upon himself to deliver a project that’s resoundingly ambitious in a multitude of ways on “Fatal Equation”. Simultaneously an album and a book, the project that follows the against-odds romance between young singer-songwriter/DJ Ali Kurmi and the older, beautiful Laura O’Brien. A lovers tale at crossroads, expressed against the backdrop of villainy, infamy, and angst through the myriad of associates and family members vying to bring them down, Fatal Equatoin runs itself along a trope of expected cliches but delivers in its sincerity and strength of the characters behind it. The sheer emotion that comes through across this lengthy record, particularly so on the title track and the final two namely “The Longest Summer” and “In Paradise” allows Jones to take a love story that’s well known into new life. It’s a love story that’s tested against a host of obstacles that continually barrel down on our star crossed pairing, expressed beautifully through the work of Coolstar and Jones himself.
