The lead track from their debut album 10 Minutes, ‘His Voice Is Sweet’ is one of the purest and most soothing pieces of indie folk out this year. Written in collaboration with Mike Ladd, GmBt Life’s lead track is short and supple while being so achingly sombre and melancholic. It doesn’t however feel depressing or agonizing, feeling much more nostalgic and warm despite its slowness and seeming sadness. Standing incredibly short at just over two minutes, it feels too fleeting not to replay almost immediately upon listening. The jangling acoustic melody, raw and endearing, overlaid on top of ‘his voice is sweet, he’s taking drugs’ feels contrasted perfectly.
A piece of French folk that retains its heart and soul while being eloquently expressive with a touch of subtlety and truckloads of depth.
