A verifiably strange and different piece of modern hip-hop, Holger Seidelin’s style on ‘Beautiful Morning’ is so distinctively his own. The avant-garde piece of alternative rap music from the Berlin based musician feels in structure and sonics similar to a Kanye West piece. Everything from the samples to the almost gospel inspired chorus line feels reminiscent, but the execution is entirely and wholly his own. The single takes into the collapse of a relationship, but draws parallels and compares that disintegration with the fall of the West as well.
It has a lo-fi energy, a slightly subdued and relaxed vibe during the verses that feel like whispers. The chorus feels more triumphant, more celebratory even in its enthrallment and exaltation of the life and day ahead. That contrast is a highlight and an undeniable centre piece to this subtle, nuanced, and strangely evocative piece of minimalist and experimental hip-hop.
