Bringing to life an outpouring of vulnerability and hazy rock arrangements, Lewis Poole’s ‘Alone 2.0’ is a triumphant reinterpretation and rekindling of what it means to be an emo rock musician. Somehow bringing together a collision of indie pop with emo rock, he’s able to create a sound that feels like it should have been brought to life long back. It’s a delightfully catchy tune, the kind that has you bearing all your angst and screaming in your room in desperate desolation and anger at the world around you. The beautiful mix of synths, pop, and rock is a match made in heaven and it’s all tied together through Poole’s gritty and emotively scintillating performance that comes to the fore as he screams ‘I Guess I’m Alone Now’.
I can’t help but play it on loop in the confines of my own room as I feel my unnecessarily resurgent teenage angst take control of me. Coming from an avid emo rock fan who’s tired of seeing derivative work simply repackaged, this was an absolute delight.
