As its title might lend you to expect, Love Ghost’s latest record ‘Tales of a Sad Boy’ is emo music in every which way imaginable. When you find yourself wallowing in angst, despondent and in the throes of despair and anger towards the world and people around you, this four song EP finds you and guides you through the narrow mental pathways you’ll invariably find yourself caving into. The 3rd release from the group with Cleopatra Records also saw itself produced by Mike Summers [Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Tech N9ne]. There’s a crispness to each track, a well mastered and clean recording that makes the polished pieces hit you that much more powerfully.
Oscillating between rap focused records and more rock oriented ones, Tales of a Sad Boy truly encompasses the emo universe with all directions covered.
The record is a powerful and emotionally charged collection of songs that tackle themes of loneliness, stagnation, betrayal, and trauma. The lead track, “Heartless,” is a lonely odyssey that blends emo, alt-rock and hip-hop to create a hazy and introspective atmosphere. The lyrics are raw and evocative, capturing the fears and doubts that arise from past relationships fallout. The second track, “Lethargic” captures the emotion of stagnation, of being stuck behind and unable to find yourself moving forward. The third track, “Samurai” is about breaking through your battles, finding your way to fight your way as a soldier through your struggles. The final track, “Train Tracks”, is a personal piece, one that becomes exceptionally vulnerable and personable. Each track comes with a video which really adds depth to the listening experience. The EP as a whole is a must-listen for fans of emo, alt-rock, and hip-hop music.
Your sad boy vibes would be incomplete without this on repeat.
