The debut album from Luna Keller is far from a surprise drop from an artist coming out of nowhere. Keller has slowly but surely established herself as a name in the folk/country space over the past two years with a series of delectably melodic acoustic driven Americana tunes that impart soothing and vulnerable tunes through which Keller is able to showcase her authentic self while connecting to the listener’s own problems and life stories. There’s a strong narrative pull to each track, but it’s in Keller’s innately attractive and captivating vocal performance alongside simple yet infectious acoustic melodies that the record finds its form.
There’s already been a slew of singles released that have been more than well received in the build up to Prophecies And Silver Linings. It’s perhaps best captured and illuminated in Keller’s opening piece itself. ‘High Low High Low’, a cheery and rather upbeat tune describes with mellow ease the rollercoaster of life itself. Then there’s perhaps the album’s standout piece, the poppy and addictive ‘I’ll Bring You Home’. Here, Keller is at her best from a song writing perspective. There’s a chorus to sing along to, an acoustic riff that gets you grooving, and a building rhythmic section that simply elevates the entire piece into something larger than itself. The continued repetition of the titular line, ‘I’ll Bring You Home’ has you singing along with some sort of nostalgic memory of a past relationship and more uplifting days.
The entire record is a collection of Keller’s life in song through the past five years. Written between when she was 15 and 20, the songs in essence capture the moments of growing up, the highs and lows, the rollercoaster of life, and the specific times that serve as stepping stones for growth. It’s a coming of age record where its own vulnerability transcends into the listener who’s able to take that empathetic lyricism and emotion into their own life and relate. One of the most poignant Americana records in recent memory.
