‘Real Future’ feels like a unique mix and match between the old and the new. Melodically a distinctively 80s sound, but sonically and thematically definitely veering into elements that are more obviously modern, the strange confluence of these two retro and futuristic sides of the same coin make for a delightfully addictive piece of pop rock that’s hard not to sing along to. Matt Deangelis’ vocal performance is a definitive highlight, simply oozing swagger and pomp into the already glimmering and glistening arrangement. It’s a song that isn’t afraid to strut itself, carried and steered by a singer who’s got a confidence in performance that’s refreshing to come across.
Inspired by the impact of the climate crisis and the pandemic itself, its rather dystopian outlook is perhaps a bit overblown by the much more up tempo and fun pomp that Matt Denagelis brings to such vivid life.
