Murdocco – A Song for Alex | Hope

Hailing from Uruguay, based in London, folk-pop artist Murdocco’s silky falsetto adds a level of emotional depth to a song that is already steeped in feeling and hardship. Her intonation is constantly shifting, allowing the song to take you on her own personal struggle. “ A song for Alex” Murdocco says: ‘’It’s a song I wrote with great love and distress while I was keeping company to my friend Alex in hospital, during his fight against cancer. It arises from the frustration of not being able to help a friend that is suffering and fighting for his life, while admiring his bravery, intelligence and the wit he conveyed when facing such challenges, right up till the end. ” The song becomes an ode to her friend, while also highlighting that pained position she herself was in.

It’s a fairly by the numbers modern folk song, incorporating more atmospheric elements and an air of sadness across its duration. What’s most fascinating about ‘A Song for Alex’ is its subtlety, never ascending too high or crashing too low. It maintains a feeling and energy that has you floating alongside throughout. Folktronica done right.
