One Room Schoolhouse have a sound that’s almost definitively their own. The new age and jazz fusion that this American outfit have concocted is nothing alike to any arrangement you might have come across. On ‘Crooked Again’, the slightly whiny vocal performance, the mellifluous ensemble of synths, and the relaxing lo-fi production background all seamlessly mesh into one another on an end product that’s equal parts soothing and invigorating. It feels like a mix of the past and present, treading a line that’s hard to walk on but pinpoint accurate whenever you manage to hit those notes.
A wonderful revival and innovation, Crooked Again is a refreshing take on an otherwise by the numbers genre.
