Raw, and without any time messing around, Sarantos makes it explicitly clear about what “Another Surgery” is about. A powerful and emotional ride that describes the Chicago based artists continual trysts in the hospital, the song is more about Sarantos’ relationship with his father who’s passed. He doesn’t see the prospect of passing on the hospital bed as something grim anymore. In fact, he almost sees it as a way to spend moments with his dad in wherever realm he might be. It’s deeply poignant, an aching performance that you can see is filled to the brim with a deep love and adulation for his father.
Sarantos carries this ballad purely off of his own expression. It’s weighted, heavy, and laboured. There’s an anguish to it, but a hopefulness that somehow manages to creep in as well. Although it’s definitively plaintive, “Another Surgery” still has a silver lining embedded within.
