Spence Paull’s voice is just injected with so much soulfulness and vigour that it makes you entirely enraptured throughout her sumptuously energetic clean pop tunes. On ‘When I’m Lonely’, the Canadian singer-songwriter and producer has delivered an addictive piece of pop that combines elements of 80s synth work with delectable vocal melodies to make for a powerful and addictive track. The song describes the the temptation to call someone when you’re lonely, but also recognising that the person you’re reaching out to is probably not the best person for you as they’ve put you through trauma and hardship far worse.
There are elements of soulfulness, of jazz, and of more mainstream commercial pop all blended together in something that any listener will find delightful to sink into.
