“Balloon” sees 5ON5 back at their best. The luscious synth driven electro-pop tune might be their most poppy one yet. It’s effortlessly catchy, with a melodic core that entirely encompasses you and has you singing along in no time. Accompanied with a visual treat of a video that feels so wacky yet wonderful in equal measure, the song has you feeling like you’re floating, in perhaps direct correlation to what its titular line would imply. The Berlin based act bring out a whole host of vocal harmonies and different voices on “Balloon”, completely throwing you into this pop exodus that’s just a melodic maze of sonic treats. The way “purposeless” is echoed on that chorus line might be one of my favourite musical moments of the year so far.
I can’t recommend 5ON5 enough, they’re one of the most exciting electronic pop projects I’ve had the pleasure to discover and they deserve a whole lot more love.
