Back with another bang, the wonderfully weird alternative rock outfit that is ‘9 o’clock Nasty’ is back to deliver their outlandish take on everything you hold holy. Do not scratch your ears, everything is precisely as you hear it. Their latest three track EP is a bafflingly all over the place smorgasbord of tunes that span a more mellow pop rock bite size offering to a gloomy gothic horror core track that overbears on you. The group thrives of madness, with their latest release on the eve of Christmas a decision they believe is their duty to add to the god given collective hysteria. Musical hooliganism at its finest.
As the Ship Goes Down, a more light hearted and easy going pop rock song that is as fleeting as it is enjoyable is a song recorded in an alcoholic haze. At the end of it, it’s all just about good beer. With lyrics that are tantamount to absolute nonsense or about having sex on a sinking ship, it’s as ridiculous as it is fun. Preach Me Down is the more gloomy and dreary piece, a song with a heavy bass that compels you to see a dark world around on. And on What Time Is Santa?, a tune actually re-engineered from an earlier song by the band with injections of sleigh bells and cheery children chanting makes for the group’s very own, wonderfully wicked and wacky holiday anthem.
It’s an absolute bonkers rollercoaster ride that might be short, but there’s bundles of strange fun to be uncovered in the weirdness.
