Thumping and towering, Dead Superstar bring back the fervour and adrenaline packed flair of hard rock with authenticity and bravado that few can match. Pounding drums and a vocal performance basked in a combination of anguish and anger perfectly capture the paranoia and anxiety that “These Voices” is trying to exude. But it’s also got a revengeful side to it, an aspect that’s looking to hit back and fight against the enemy, albeit that enemy being an internal and almost self imposed aspect of the protagonist himself. Written during the pandemic, the ethos and context of the song becomes all that much more relatable and understandable as to how it came into being.
Fervent and furious, “These Voices” is an absolute rollercoaster that would song levels better in a live environment. You can hear the rawness in the recording, the fury in its performance, and the absolutely unhinged nature of its topic.
A true rock and roll ride that’s hard & heavy but not at the cost of its melodic anchor.
