An exciting lively live rendition of pre-existing records, Bdee + The Venomous Oranges delivers a record that tightly captures the rawness of performances on “Dinos in Vietnam Sessions”. Oscillating between moments of groove to hard rock to even synths here and there, it’s a defiantly experimental piece that defies traditional genre categorisation although the larger umbrella of rock would fit it best. The sheer polar sides to the opening track on Daysleeper alone perfectly highlight the raucousness to the smoothness that’s capable of being expressed here.
Born in Montego Bay and now thriving in Long Island, BDEE’s extensive career includes over 2000 songs, but here he highlights his latest experimentation with his band and producer Will Forthman. The album delves into complex themes such as isolation and self-identity through both intense and introspective tracks. From the chaotic energy of “Distress Signal” to the reflective nature of “Lost In My Senses,” this record provides a raw and intimate glimpse into the band’s artistic evolution.
The added layer of live renditions gives the entire project a different weight and air to it that’s all the more engrossing.
