It’s rare to come across a cover album that’s choosing to take on a collection of tracks as iconic yet also keenly almost uncoverable in the way that Me & Melancholy do on Under Cover Part 2. Opening with a riveting reimagining of Depeche Mode’s “The sun and the rainfall” to a whole new interpretation of one of my all time favourite songs “This Modern Love” by Bloc Party, there’s a whole new stylistic rendition of each of these songs. Understandably, the vocal performances can’t really replicate the distinctiveness that a lot of the alternative rock vocalists this album chooses to emulate had, and that’s purely because of how unique they themselves were. But it’s in the arrangement, the sheer creativity in repackaging and restructuring these compositions that “Under Cover Part 2” succeeds. It’s thoroughly intriguing.
