It’s a testament to Canyon’s quality that he was able to enlist Wu-Tang clan legend Raekwon for his debut track. Having worked in gruelling sales jobs for over six years, he finally decided to take the massive step into the equally gritty music world. Networking, perseverance, and talent all need to be combined for anyone to make it. For Canyon, he might just be hitting all the right cylinders. ‘Shark Tank’ is a lyrical gem, something you’d expect as a standard from any collaboration with Raekwon. But even more than that, the flow that Canyon brings is remarkably entertaining. He’s not only got an old-school, classic hip-hop flow, but it’s something that he’s reworked for his own vocal talents.
The production is airy, a bit spaced out and floating. The constant to and fro between Canyon and Raekwon wills the track into new levels. The final minute, where the delivery starts to incorporate new levels of aggression and grit is an impeccable highlight. A refreshingly powerful piece of lyrical driven rap music.
