Driven by a mellow, almost morose acoustic production backing, Lynn Sun’s latest electro-pop tune is far from what you’d regularly expect from a song that ties itself to the genre. She’s incredibly vulnerable on the piece, outlying her own personal experience and tying it to a larger existential and practical concern we all have. Surviving in a world that increasingly seems more complex, while also navigating your own personal traumas and experiences can be arduous and breaking. Especially now, in the social media age, breaking into adulthood and entering the ‘real world’ while still recovering from scarring experiences is all that more difficult.
Life’s supposed to have gotten more convenient, easier to succeed and live a better quality of life than ever before. Strangely though, mental health is probably at an all time low, and that’s even if we account for under reported figures. Of course, COVID exacerbated the situation, but it also did bring it to light. Songs like ‘Little Trauma’ are the kind that help you navigate your own struggles, giving you a sense of reassurance and calm that you’re not alone and that there is a better tomorrow.
