Julia Be’s project ‘Otherwoman’ is a luscious and gleaming piece of r&b. Her silky vocals on top of an absolute paradise of subtle sonic moments make for a vividly imaginative tune that captures you as a full body experience. It’s incredible how music has the capability to awaken all of your senses, have each bit of you entirely enraptured in the experience of its soundscapes. Fundamentally, ‘Fine’ is a straightforward and obvious love song that is undoubtedly a little bit cheesy and cliched. It’s about trust, taking a leap of faith, and ultimately harbouring a more optimistic and positive outlook towards love than what we’re typically used to. Rather than make another love song fixated on jealousy and betrayal, Julia, and her husband Timothy who co-produces the work, decided to flip the script into a more hopeful piece.
What makes ‘Fine’ so endearing is the production work though. The song feels like you’re draped in colours and sensations, it is palatially decked with ornamental sound bites. You feel completely embraced, and wholeheartedly enchanted by its complexity and minutia. A wonderfully extravagant and intricate piece of r&b.
