Kristoffer Eikrem – Afternoon Assortment | Distort

Never before have I come across a more simple, yet appropriate album title as ‘Afternoon Assortment’. The lo-fi instrumental project from Oslo based Kristoffer Eikrem is a delectable symphony of short tidbits of sound that seamlessly mesh into one another to create an afternoon well worth relishing in. The award winning instrumentalist has a dexterity to his craft that makes this album something that’s more than just relaxing. It’s a fascinating smorgasbord of little textures and synergies that combines genres and instruments into a rather smooth and broadly appealing piece of primarily jazz and hip-hop influenced instrumental electronic tunes. In a sense, he’s got his own unique style of lo-fi to share.

Kristoffer Eikrem is a well experienced instrumentalist, composer and DJ from Norway. Over the years, Eikrem has played together with a lot of acknowledged artists like Ivan Ave, Beautiful Disco, Bendik Baksaas, Fredfades, Vuyo & Ol’ Burger Beats and Mutual Intentions, to name a few.

He began to approach producing his own music three years ago in 2018, wherein his fascination for jazz and electronic saw him start to experiment until he fell deep enough down the rabbit hole to start crafting his own lo-fi jams. After a couple of years of collecting ideas and doing creative studio work, Kristoffer Eikrem has brought his solo work to life in an album that’s as pleasing, calming, and reassuring as the name suggests.

‘Afternoon Assortment’ is just a series of beats, none too longing or droning, that maintain a calm sensibility throughout. If you’re a fan of studying music, lo-fi channels, and a rich incorporation of instrumental diversity that bases itself in jazz, this is the record for you!
