On Jake Juba’s latest record, the Denmark based producer follows his modus operandi to a tee. Enlisting the help of vocalist and his best friend Luke L.A Byrne, Juba’s synthesized a record to tell his friends story. The song explores Luke’s life, the pressure of hitting thirty, and the multitude of feelings that come alongside it. It also delves into his relationship with places, particularly his life back in Yorkshire to his present one in Denmark. There’s a pointed concerted effort that Juba makes to tailor make the beat in a way where the story is authentically put to life.
“In my home studio in Copenhagen’s northern district, Nørrebro, we spent 18 months mapping out this period of Luke’s life, listening to a mixture of Motown, House, hiphop and RnB – the record definitely nods to all these genres. We spent many nights in smokey Bodega’s, imagining what this record could be, and more often than not, the headaches from the night before shaped what the record became.”
The beat is riveting, a pulsating blend of retro soul sounds with a modern tinge to give it a sleek feeling that has you persistently moving alongside it. So enter Luke’s room, courtesy of a keen and apparatus that Juba has crafted with love.
