It’s a statement when you release a song that clocks over six minutes long these days. You’re demanding attention for a single piece that probably encompasses three whole mainstream tunes. But, what Alpha Mortal Foxtrot have done with their latest single goes to show that a well thought out progressive rock piece can still steal the spotlight. “No One Will Talk About Us” is a complex song, but one that is undeniably anthemic in its appeal. With a chorus that drives you to move along with them, the Indonesian group have created a magnificent stadium rock set closer. On one listen alone, I can immediately tell that this song would be immeasurably more impactful on a live set.
But, that doesn’t mean there’s anything to take away from the studio recording. The alternative rock group use masterfully produced echoes, overdrive, and continually change tempo to craft a dynamic listening experience within a singular piece. Their influences are clear in their progressive approach to their music, with Floyd, Silversun Pickups, and Porcupine Tree all forming part.
‘No One Will Talk About Us’ is about underdogs, those who feel downtrodden and cast away by their peers, colleagues, or the world even. Rather than wallow in the self-pity of being unrecognised, their chorus becomes an almost carrion call to embrace being overlooked but continue pushing forward regardless.
On the track, the group said “Simply put, we just love to be the underdogs. We feel like we beat the odds. If you feel the same way too, this song is for you, as we believe that it is much easier for us to prevail when no one talks about us or owes us anything.“
Part of a larger album release later this year, ‘No One Will Talk About Us’ deserves your ears. I only wish to hear a live recording of this sometime soon.
