North Yorkshire-based singer-songwriter extraordinaire Lara de Belder has somehow managed to fly under most of our musical radars, and the world has not been any better for it.
Lara de Belder dives back into her discography with the release of her latest 2021 track It’s All Over, following up her criminally underrated previous work of singles such as Overtime and Turn It Over. The near four-minute track tips its hats to genres such as jazz, soul and a Jimmie Vaughan-style mellow blues orchestration that scatters itself across the number. From the first minute, the track appears to have a conversation between Belder’s lyrics and the instruments — in a manner almost similar to evoke a story of lovelorn melancholy. Grandeur and theatricality prevail across the track, making it an almost Nina Simone-esque characterisation. Belder’s vocal performances, for one, highlight a sense of veteran affair with lovesick songwriting with some instances of vindictiveness, risque and assertion.
