With an absolutely electric and eccentric flurry of future dance beats that take you on a whole rollercoaster of emotions, Berlin based experimental electronic outfit Sinularia are all kinds of eclectic. Subwater Beats lives and breathes in the realm its name draws from. The almost deep sea elemental sonic tracks that are scattered through this futuristic record are down right trance inducing. With an experimental tinge that leaves you simultaneously hopelessly bewildered and incredulously transfixed, Sinularia bring to life an intangible spiritual experience through rhythmic complexities that are confusing and awe inspiring.
From the opening piece, ‘Korallenbeat’, you’re immediately hurled into a universe that sounds nothing like our own. In many ways, the whole record acts as a cinematic backdrop to some sort of space punk science fiction expedition. There’s a metallic, electronic, and spatial energy replete across it all. On ‘Breath’, you’re hurled into a frenzied piece of progressive math rock that’s almost cacophonic which slowly starts to mellow out before re-engaging you with speed levels that increase again and again till you’re almost exhausted. A rollercoaster, beyond doubt. More subtle and deeply euphoric pieces like ‘Paraminabea’ and ‘Marine Phosphorence’ are personal highlights for me, combining unadulterated noise with pleasurable ambient backdrops at times.
“In the end we call it Subwater Beats, a positive, intense, floating, fat, humorous, fluid, rich, eventful, post contemporary, challenging, creative music with three clearly political persons.”
Not for the faint hearted, but an absolute revelation for the creative soul. Subwater Beats is a rollercoaster of a ride from back to front, never once boring you or letting you meander. It’s an instrumental record that demands attention, a kind of white noise that’s filled with so much happening that you can’t help but try and piece it all together as it barrages onto you.
