DaeMarcus, the solo project of a song-writer from Boston, has a dreamy, almost ethereal energy that he exudes across his lavish indie pop record ‘Trials & Errors’. It’s immediately unique, unlike any other style you’d have come across. There’s a spacey and dreamy atmosphere that DaeMarcus brings, slightly whiney but wholly immersive in the layers and imagination that he exudes across the record. ‘Trials & Errors’ is a euphoric record, combining the kind of unabashed and expressive emotiveness that an excellent songwriter can muster with soundscapes that sound like you’re in a fantastical realm.
For whatever reason, going through the album had me visualizing one of my favourite movies, Disney’s Treasure Planet, throughout its runtime. The wavy and spacious production that feels like a warm bubble in the clouds alongside the lyricism that encourages belief, confidence, and pursuing your dreams just perfectly captures the magical landscape and emotion of the film. In many ways, it’s almost like a coming of age record but for a different time and space altogether. It’s not grounded one bit in its scale or scope, but it is in its meaning and purpose. That unique confluence between poignant songwriting and lavish production is majestically carved in by this emerging force that is DaeMarcus.
There’s nothing notably astounding about the vocals, but its within the mazes of spacious production, you’re able to discern the emotional depth and nostalgic waves that DaeMarcus is able to compose. It’s an album you feel like lying back and exploring as you slowly just let all your worries dissipate in entirety as your dreams visualise in vivid detail.
