Rosehip – Stargaze

Rosehip’s signature brand of layered, laidback, and lackadaisical lo-fi music lays a path for the listener to move along in the flow they want to embark on. He marries the meditative with the psychedelic, taking you on an experiential journey that doesn’t completely overwhelm you but infuses you with just the right amount of rich melodic soundscapes to let you start being that slight bit more introspective. His characteristically vibrant soundscapes take inspiration from lo-fi hip hop, vaporwave and future bass, and then combining them into a confluence of a creative palette that feels like a luscious garden just teeming with diverse and eclectic flowers.

‘Stargaze’ feels like a new step forward, a statement EP from Rosehip that perfectly and seamlessly lays out his own enchanting atmosphere. Starting with ‘Twilight’, the London based producer instantly hooks you into a smooth and serene piece of relaxing lo-fi music that incorporates a bit of static with clean and translucent beats that feels like you’re underwater enjoying memories and vivid imaginations of nostalgic times. It feels ethereal and euphoric, but simultaneously there’s a deep melancholy embedded to this piece. It was largely inspired by the 1850 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem ‘Twilight’, which features as a sample on the record as well.

That sea faring, ocean like energy continues through the album with ‘Sailors’ evoking a similarly enchanting atmosphere that feels like you’re out on the high seas in complete uninterrupted bliss. It builds with verve and passion, hitting a climax that has you transfixed and hypnotized all at once.

Each track on this record has a distinctively unique feeling. It is perfectly serene, the absolute most luscious form of lo-fi you’ll come across.
