Daniel Dirty Money – Dirty Money Records

Dirty Money Records is not a straightforward or normal record. It’s really a collection that’s all over the place in its tonality and vibe, but so dead set in its execution and delivery. The album from Daniel Dirty Money has a bit of everything, both from the full amalgamation of the hip-hop space to even a few elements of emo and rock thrown in for good measure. A party, an absolute rollercoaster of a flow that consistently jumps from back to front to front to back in its totality. At moments you’re introspecting, at others it’s comedic and light-hearted, and at others still is incredibly pumping and high octane energy driven rap.

From the first track, ‘Toxic’, you see the gritty and raw style that Daniel wants to bring out. The record isn’t perfectly mastered for sure, with a lot of the songs still having a recording quality that isn’t quite studio level. But it’s not really meant to be a cohesive album, it’s a lengthy ordeal at thirty something tracks. It’s a mixtape that’s meant to be more of a demo, a statement tape that highlights the talents of each of its contributors and their capabilities.

Occasional flurries like the bop of a flow on ‘King Kong’ are definite highlights that make the record won’t going back to. You need to sift through the maze on this piece, identify the hits and stick with them. There’s the more surrealist and opulent pieces like ‘Friday’ and ‘Narcotics Anonymous’ that utilise a host of vocal effects to create a wholly new experience. Alternatively you have more restrained and minimal pieces like ‘Karate’. It feels like a flurry of freestyles all orchestrated together at once. Find your piece and stick with it.
