A simultaneously mournful yet hopeful piece of piano driven instrumental, Leonardo Barilaro’s ‘Not 63 days without a note’ is solemn and introspective unlike most. Ever so delicate, the pitter patter of the piano coupled alongside the very subtle percussive background, the song has you searching inwards, grappling more and more with the world around you. The reflective track was partially inspired by the situation in Ukraine. Shifting from something slightly more light to a dark, heavy, and brooding tone, it’s able to convey swathes of emotions without a word being said. The tension is palpable, with each note delivering so much more and each slight change in tone markedly impacting your experience. As it progresses to dark, you feel unsettled but thoughtful.
A deeply inspired and introspective piece of piano driven music, Barilaro’s style is immediately entertaining and soothing to anyone who shares an affinity to the instrument. It’s poignant and eloquent even in the absence of words altogether.
