Combining a turbulent and rambunctious set of instrumentation with a more subtle melodic undertone, ‘Ridicule, is a triumphant debut from An Triangles. The Boston based DIY artist brings forth an authentic, raw, and sincere piece of indie rock that’s intimate and warm unlike most. Self-released and recorded alone in his bedroom, Ridicule combines rather grim and morose lyrical undertones of existential angst and depression with much more bouncy basslines and spring loaded drum work to create a contrast that makes it all the more palatable.
A near two year old track, ‘Ridicule’ is the first piece of music that Doug Poppe, who goes by An Triangles, wrote. It’s got that raw and unfiltered element strewn across it, a spontaneity that’s embedded in its flow and melody. But above it all, it’s a song that’s just brimming with heart and emotion. For a debut piece to be this intrinsically emotive and evocative in its ability to depict these feelings is simply masterful. A piece of indie rock that wouldn’t sound out of place in a pitchfork top ten list.
