Written on the eve of expecting his first child, Morisse Monty’s ‘Lightweight’ sees the Belgium based artist really start to open up in an introspective piece. That distinct washed over indie rock/pop sensibility still pervades strongly over Monty’s music. It’s irresistibly smooth, loaded with a mixture of classic and modern arrangement styles that give it a rather glossy and mixed appeal. The song discusses Monty getting his life in order, figuring out everything he needs to get in order before the child comes to the world. It’s not as much a song filled with worry as much as it is one loaded with excitement and pomp.
It’s fun, energetic, and upbeat throughout. You want to look towards the future with glee, even if things might not be entirely prepared as things stand right now. Infectiously catchy, and produced with a suave sense of style, Monty’s evolution as an artist is delightful to come across. It’s not your run oft he mill indie record, really innovating and pushing the boundaries with substance and swagger in equal measure.
