Sweet Giant have style, and they have it in droves. The ever unique London based folk rock group have a sound that is so entirely and wholeheartedly their own that it’s bound to imprint itself into your memory not long after you first start diving into their catalogue. The trio have been making music for four years now. Annie and Nick had been making music together since their school years when they met touring musician, Marco in London early 2018, forming Sweet Giant. Their sound combines a bit of roots, a bit of folk, and a bit of alternative rock to synthesize something quite unlike anything I’ve had the pleasure to come across. There’s buckets of soul, slices of modernity, and a harmonisation on the vocals that makes the entire experience all the merrier.
The entire EP feels like a roadtrip record, but one that’s distinctively got a Western setting. I won’t spare too much focusing on the other three unreleased tracks other than make note of their upcoming release month on month till their out in entirety.
‘Till You’re Blue’ is an absolute ride of a track. It’s fun, it’s cheery, it’s warm, and above all, it’s so well arranged. It compels you to join alongside the harmonies, bopping your head nonchalantly alongside the upbeat and aloof jingle that the instrumentation brings to life with such evocative glee. Annie’s lead vocals lend the group their binding tool, a slightly edgy and offbeat cadence and melody that’s perfectly complementary to the alternative folksy style that the group surrounds itself in.
I can’t wait for you all to hear the remainder of this album because it simply appreciates with each passing track. Till You’re Blue is a hell of an opening single that’s bound to keep you waiting for more.
