Despite being trained and proclaimed as a blues guitar player, Kid Koi’s music is much more along the lines of modern pop rock. The infectious ‘Those Kinda Days’ takes an eclectic approach to the instrumentation, a delectable acoustic hook driving the entire record. But it’s in the chorus that he succeeds, crafting an absolutely addictive and pulsating melody that simply refuses to leave your head. You keep humming along, continuously hitting the replay button trying to sink yourself into this vibe and have the entire day go like one of those kinda days.
Pop rock is defined to me by its ability to piece together a catchy riff and an even more addictive chorus line. Kid Koi succeeds on both these accounts and I’m sure many a hit is bound to flow from this exceptionally talented hitmaker who’s got an ear for a melody and the fingers to string a lick to remember.
