With a name like My Friend The Chimpanzee, you can be damn sure that you’re entering an experience that’s wholly different if not entirely bewildering. The Austria based indietronica duo are as eclectic as it gets, mesmerising their listeners with a flurry of assorted instrumentations, genres, and vocal melodies. Although a guitar and based do find formative elements in their sounds, it’s really the soaring and wildly strange synth work that elevates the entire record. Twin Moons is entirely bewitching, a scorching piece of electronic rock that has you continually in awe and amazement.
As with most of their work, the first fragments of the track came into being because Josef and Lukas found a sound they wanted to base it off while jamming. The decision to base the lyrics on Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84 as well as to use the vocals in an alternate version (release scheduled for June) with different instrumentals to do justice to the theme of “twin moons” came later.
Any electronic music fan will do themselves a good three minutes by tuning into this masterpiece.
