The latest record from singer-songwriter and disability writes advocate Pidgie sees the Boston based artist express herself in a quirky, quaint, and altogether groovy collection of pop rock tunes that draw influence from classical instrumentation and wholly creative perseverance. There’s an underlying theme of empowerment and creativity that pervades across the album, a guiding light that places finding yourself amidst the chaos and conundrums of life front and centre. Pidgie’s life experience, her history growing up with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) has played front and centre in her outlook towards living and her creative spark in ‘Just Breathe’.
Tracks like ‘Accessory’, which jump you into the suave and groovy piece of the record have you ready for the infectious and riff laden rock and roll that she’s able to so easily deliver. Each track kind of echoes a similar sentiment of empowerment, of betterment, and about perseverance. There’s a wonderful guitar solo on the quirky ‘Kick Ass Boots’, a definitive highlight on the record for the continuously impressive electric work in the background. The vocal performance is authentic and unabashed, an almost innocence prevailing.
With influences clearly coming from the likes of Stevie Nicks and her contemporaries, Pidgie is reinventing and refreshingly crafting rock anthems for the modern age while still maintaining a classic overtone to the entire feel and arrangement of the record.
