On their 35th anniversary, cult Psychedelic scientists ‘The Chemistry Set’ are out with a delicious hard rock fuelled record ‘Pink Felt Trip’. Melodic and manic all at once, there’s a driving and pulsating energy that starts with the relentless rollercoaster that is on the opener track’s boisterous line ‘Here It Comes’. As the record progresses, you start to delve deeper and deeper into the mesmerizingly transcendental energy that’s imbued with psychedelic atmosphere all over on even the record’s second piece’ The Witch’.
By no means do The Chemistry Set feel like a band that sounds out of2022. Their sound, their stylistic elements, and even in the way the instruments are played and lyrics sung is so eerily reminiscent of British progressive rock outfits from more than half a century ago. ‘The Witch’ perhaps best exemplifies and encapsulates the sound and temper of The Chemistry Set better than any other piece. It feels ominous and harrowing, but there’s so much splendour and emotion embedded within it as well. Right before it, the titular track kickstarts the album into overdrive with such fiery passion that its follow up feels like the ideal palette cleanser. Tunes like Psychotronic Man feel like a harkening back to raga rock singles of the 70s as well. The wonderful acoustic work has you feeling like you’re in a land of mystical mystery, a wholly hypnotic energy pervading all over you.
The Chemistry Set are undoubted experts in their field, bringing to the fore a degree of mastery across psychedelic rock music that combines a roaring intensity with a mellow harmony across all of their work. Catch their radiant and immaculately arranged record Pink Felt Trip out today!
