A rather bustling sonic spurious medley of jagged guitars and raw unfiltered drums, Dark Soul Safari’s avant-garde garage rock four track EP Running with Scissors is a rollercoaster ride of rock and roll. Exploring and delving into themes of individuality and humanity itself, the record introspects on how we both collectively and personally are on the edge of collapsing. The lyrics are always somehow combining the plaintive with the poignant. There’s an underlying simplicity to most of the messages, but it’s brought to such lively excitement with the ever so evocative nature of the guitar work across the record.
Opening with a more angry piece on ‘That’s How I Roll’, Dark Soul Safari narrates a rather quirky tale of a road rage incident and explores the psychology of the protagonist within. Yet even here, the vocals remain this rather quaint classical sounding performance that masks the underlying anger.
