Charlie Couvillion’s first release in about 2 years sees the Memphis based artist enlist the help of Duke Smith and Jayvoe. A luscious and warm instrumental backdrop gives Sunrise its core sensibility, a reassuring and calming sensation that placates the senses and puts you in a state of perennial bliss. There’s a lovely indie pop chorus that’s addictive and smooth, the kind of delectable melodic delivery that has you singing along. On the verse, the vocal performance is deep and powerful, a contrast that makes that chorus line hit that much harder whenever the drop comes by.
Sunrise is a well put together one-two between hip-hop and indie music. The otherwise powerful rap verse is complemented perfectly by a mellifluous melodic chorus to make for a delicious interplay.
