‘Neverland’ really feels like an escapist fantasy. The raucous yet somehow anthemic cry of Ollie Twohill clattering behind his electrifyingly intoxicating riffs just has a way of letting you turn back into your inner child. You’re taken back to moments when you felt like the world felt like it was closing in on you and you wanted to go to your safe space. The song’s title, a literary allusion that many will recognise, clearly also leans into that idea. The powerful pop-punk expressiveness that Twohill is able to bring to life doesn’t sound a bit like the more trite mainstream imitations that feel almost ripped off of a template to fit a certain radio aesthetic.
On the contrary, Ollie Twohill finds himself able to deliver a delightfully authentic punk rock piece that’s going to hit you at your lowest in the best way possible. Writing it right now, feeling like the walls are closing in and every responsibility is all too much, just singing along to that beacon of a chorus and banging your head to that powerful riff is just the best way of finding some sort of solace.
