Queen Of My Domain explores our experiences with self-fulfilment, with empowerment, and with being content. The rather lackadaisical song embraces the quality of life that comes with being alone and satisfied despite what society might say. It’s got a similar laidback and strangely warm feeling that Dominic Fike’s ‘King of Everything’ brings out as well. But the poignance behind this song’s inception and its actual meaning is far stronger. Written to and about her aunt, Zoe Guigueno penned the song for her aunt who is a truck driver in the lower mainland of BC, and one of the only women in her workplace. The song therefore also becomes a beacon for empowerment and the search for independence in an otherwise difficult situation.
Zoe Guigueno’s laidback and restrained approach is the perfect arrangement for this song. It’s not meant to be a blaring alarm, or a large battle cry. It’s about being content, being blissfully happy even when things might outwardly look otherwise because of what society conditions us to think. A relaxing, soulful, and empowering indie folk tune.
