The Vonics – The World Can Wait

Upbeat, raucous, and an all around good time, The Vonics bring out a punchy, grimy, and deliciously fun style of grunge out on ‘The World Can Wait’. Gritty garage rock is rarely delivered with as much oomph and swagger as this Dudley based outfit bring out. But, somehow, despite the rather raw and uncut feeling that they have to their sound, there’s a distinctively pop element that’s able to beam through on the record. From the delectable electric guitar melodies on ‘Nothing to Gain’ to the general catchiness of the hooks on each track, The Vonics are more than well aware about how to piece together a hook.

‘Nothing to Gain’ serves as the best possible album opener that you can find. The sheer rambunctious energy that The Vonics are able to power through on this record has you feeling all kinds of delectable vibes. But, my interest for the record really ascended to another level as I found myself sinking into ‘The Drugs Can Do’. The sheer punchy pleasure of this power pop tune backed with traditional guitar melodies had me head banging back and forth with a sheer revel to it all.

On ‘Hypnotic’, the more down tempo melody offers a nice stylistic reprieve on the record that has a distinctive energy to it. The intricacy of the guitar work here is exemplary to marvel at.

Few bands bring together a level of swagger, substance, and uniqueness that this five piece outfit has proved to deliver on ‘The World Can Wait’. Personally, the sheer ease through which they seem to traverse territories of rock, pop, and alternative makes the entire record a delight to go through.
