There’s a certain playfulness, light hearted energy, and all around innocence that characterises The Mars McClane’s lackadaisical yet chirpy tune ‘Broke Kid’. The delightful piece of indie pop/folk just oozes a sense of nostalgia draped in happy memories that has you entirely pleased and in a good mood while you find yourself bobbing your head to the lazy ukuleles that form the bedrock of the song’s emotional core. With a chorus that finds itself much more impressive in scale and substance, ‘Broke Kid’ is immensely rousing in its passion and also soothing in its build up.
It’s not often you come across that timeless style of indie music, the kind that found itself almost at a zenith during the early 2010s and late 00s. The Mars McClanes have tapped into that style, nailing the emotional core while also bringing out a wholly new element through the uniqueness of the guitar work.
