Her Shadow in the Flame draws from an original composition. Matyascorvinus initially set out to do a version of Hopkins the witchfinder general, but decided to add his own spin and variations to his recording. The song is meant to draw an eye and shine a light on unjustified and senseless violence towards those who the most defenceless and at risk. It also carries with it this almost supernatural thematic that adds to its mystique. Mounted entirely with an acoustic guitar, the song truly is able to deliver and impart so much emotional power with just the subtlety of each pluck of the strings.
There’s a sense of pure longing and emotional clarity that you find yourself at comfort with through the song’s duration. It’s immensely gratifying in the most innate way.
